Bette Marie (West) Canale
Spokane, WA
Bette Marie (West) Canale passed away on October 31, 2018 in Spokane, WA. She was 77.
Bette was born on April 17, 1941 in Towanda, KS to her parents, Thomas and Marie West, and lived there for most of her childhood with her older sister, Joan, and later joined by her younger sister, Patty Moore.
Bette had a very generous heart and as a young woman she volunteered her time with the USO, where she met Henry Canale. They were married in Kansas City MO in 1960 and lived in Chicago, IL. In 1971 they relocated to Southern California, where she became very close to her husband's extended family. It was her in-laws that taught Bette how to cook Italian food. Bette was also renown for her baking, particularly her chocolate fudge and apple pie.
After raising four children, she began her career in retail until she retired at the age of a 67. In retirement, she joined a senior community where she made many new friends and spent time playing cards and bingo, which she loved and became well known among her friends as Bingo Bette, a formidable opponent. During this time, she continued to be an active part of her children and grandchildren's lives.
Bette lived a full and productive life, always near friends and family. Aside from cards and bingo, she enjoyed reading novels, watching a variety of television shows, and spending time with the people she loved. She had a beautiful smile and freely shared it with everyone she met. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Matteo and Lisa Canale, Thomas and Beverly Canale, Steven Canale and Richard Harrison, and Teresa and Kees Van Dyke; nine grandchildren: Michele, Amanda, Sarah, Ashley, Justin, Samantha, Genai, Jeremy and Kaden; and 9 great grandchildren, and one on the way.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11:00am at the Rose Family Funeral Home, 4444 Cochran Street, Simi Valley CA 93063.
