Clifton Tingstrom Obituary
Ventura, CA
Jack Tingstrom of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2018. He was 82. Jack was born in Santa Barbara, and graduated from Santa Barbara Catholic High School in 1953. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy, and spent the next four years serving in Japan.
Jack married Luana Louise Lopez on November 28, 1957, and had been married 61 years at the time of his death. They lived in Santa Barbara and Goleta, California, where he worked for General Telephone for over 25 years. In 1965, Jack, Lu, and their family moved to Ventura, where he became active in community service. He was elected to the City Council in 1991, and served until 1999. He became Mayor of Ventura in 1996, and served in that capacity until 1998. Jack was a volunteer for Caregivers for many years, and a strong advocate for senior affairs. He was a longtime Rotarian, and was a two-time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Jack also served on the Ventura City Parks and Recreation Commission, and was on the Pastoral Council for Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
Jack was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifton N. and Hazel Tingstrom. He is survived by his wife, Luana, daughters Leann (John) Springer, and Cathy Tingstrom; grandson Stephen (Chelsea) Springer; granddaughter Kimberly (T.C.) Stanley; and great grandchildren Aiden (8) and Jayce (5) Springer, and Calliope (5) and Warren (2) Stanley.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4-6 p.m., at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Ventura. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, 199 North Hope Ave., Santa Barbara. Jack will always be remembered for his love of family, country and community.
