Susan Pugh Obituary

Susan Marie Hoctor Pugh

Santa Paula, CA

The family of Susan Marie Hoctor Pugh, 65, of Ventura, CA is mourning her sudden and unexpected passing. She joined our Lord in heaven on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at her home in Santa Paula, CA.

Born October 6, 1950 in Saint Louis, MO, she is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Edward Hoctor and Patricia Lee (Hoctor) Troxell of Ventura, CA. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

Susan (also known as "Susy" by her friends & family) is survived by her three children, Sarah Elizabeth Pugh and husband Art, of Ventura, CA, Zachary Levi Pugh, of Studio City, CA, Shekinah Eden McGlocklin and husband Ian, of Glendale, CA, and niece Nicole Marie Moore and husband Sean, of Van Nuys, CA. She is also survived by her four siblings, Sally Leavens and husband Link, of Ventura, CA, Sandy Stellar of Del Mar, CA, Tim Hoctor of Ventura, Ca and Michael Hoctor of Houston, TX.

Susy was a long time resident of Ventura where she lived since her childhood. A cheerleader & competitive swimmer, she graduated from Buena High School in 1968.

She enjoyed spending time with friends, shopping, reading, politics, and frequenting her favorite restaurants in town. Her deepest passion in life was helping others. She loved road trips with her family, meeting new people, and 80's music. Even now, we know she is in heaven listening to Journey, dancing and full of joy.

Susy was an incredibly dynamic woman that touched so many people's lives throughout her own. She loved ferociously & gave endlessly, creating a home for those in need of shelter, food, and love. She was the brightest light & most beautiful free spirit.

Her proudest accomplishment in life was being a mother to her 3 children. She raised them to live with grace, kindness, selflessness, conviction, and to always fight for truth. She showed them that giving is far better than receiving, & instilled in them an incredible strength, and tender empathy. She taught them to love, fiercely & deeply, & taught them the importance of forgiveness, and how crucial it is to life. But most importantly, the greatest gift she ever shared was her faith & love of Jesus.

The family will celebrate her life on Friday, October 23rd, from 6pm-midnight, at Garman's Pub in Santa Paula, CA.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA. 805-642-8134.

I met your mother when she would come into Angle View Thrift Store in Cathedral City. She was funny and warm and friendly and we just hit it off. She even stayed at my home a few times for a few days. I remember when her son got the tv series. She was over the moon excited and I was so excited for her too. Today on YouTube there was a video about actors that you didn't know were really good singers too and Zachery was one of the people the talked about but I didn't know it was him until it talked about Chuck and then said he was the voice of Flynn rider in Tangled! So I googled him and then tapped your mom and found out that she had passed and I am sooo very sorry! I haven't worked at Angel View for a long while and I moved and changed phones and numbers I guess... such nice memories of your mom and how happy for Zachery that things were going well for him. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am so so sorry to read this. I didn't know. This must have been and still be so hard for her family. But remember, you will be with her again. This is not a goodbye forever, it's a "See you at home". Though some years have passed I am sure you keep feeling the loss. Sending you hugs and love and prayers.

Oh my I'm shocked that she. Left us at such a young age (I'm 68). We're old friends from Buena High School and the last time we talked (mid /late 2000). Be happy as we'll meet again.....I can hardly wait. Lord, watch over her,

Somehow I came across this obituary while doing a Google search for an airbnb! It said that her children have left this guest book open as a memorial to her. Thank you, to her children, for doing that because this was so encouraging for me to read today. What a wonderful and lovely woman! You are very blessed to have had a mother like her and I know you must miss her dearly. I am familiar with the sting of sudden loss. I like to think that those who have served Him best, He often calls home early because He's run out of room to store their treasure! So, to her dear children, who ever and wherever you are....may God comfort you as you continue to grieve her absence. May He keep your memories of her vivid in your minds and help you hold on tight to what she taught you. And, today I'm praising Jesus for what He's done to make it possible for you to see her again!

Suzie was such a dynamic girl so energetic, smart, and practically always smiling. We went through Buena high school together, and after that she was a great friend and helped me. Condolences to her family.

Please accept my condolences for your family's loss. Suzy and I were classmates at Balboa (where I greatly annoyed her!) and Buena. Later on, after I believed on Christ, she helped strengthen me in the faith. I last saw her in 1986, though she was truly a lifelong friend and blessing.
May the Lord comfort you, knowing this is a temporary separation.

With my deepest sympathy I was compelled to write this for the family. Maybe because my mom died suddenly 10 years ago at 69. Then my sister when she was 52. But, here goes.
Watch Closely Now from Star is Born, and With one more look at you have played often in my head since the week after the death of this amazing woman. Then many songs from the 80's were being played from my internet radio station. With that being said, I will say this.
Unconditional LOVE, God's agape, Love with NO boundaries, no reasons and NO Conditions. Unconditional Love IS Unconditional Forgiveness.
A mother loves their child unconditionally. The child loses the parent and it's hard to do the same back. I am sure she did not want any of you to feel left alone. She is there with you all and so proud. She is telling my mom how Fan-Dang-tastic you guys are. Her faith is strong in all of you. If you know your heart, you will know the truth. I once told my boys, who lives in your heart? they replied Jesus so I answered, Jesus does not lie, so ask your heart what the truth is and you will hear Jesus tell you. With that, I feel a need to tell you, the heart is most pure, and will never lie to you. It may not guide you to a quick answer, nor will it use reason/Logic, but it will never ever lie. So, forgive quickly, Love Much, and Never let doubt in. It tends to steer you away from what God has for you. If she was not supposed to go home to God, she wouldn't have.
So hugs to the family and know Gods got this!

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.
Lamentations 3:20-24

Your family is in my prayers. May God's presence be unmistakably real as you walk through this.

Dear Sarah, Zac, Shekinah, Darrell, Sally, Nikki, Sandy, Tim, Mike,
I fondly remember you all. My heart goes out to all of you, at this difficult time, as well as your spouses and all those who knew and loved Susy.

I had so many great times with her. We laughed, loved and cried together throughout our lives. I have known and loved Susy longer than any other friend in my life.

I so wish I could be there with you guys next week to celebrate her life. Please know my heart and mind will be with you even though I may not there physically.

When I was a teenager and my home felt unbearable to me, Susy, your mom / sister / aunt / friend, took me in and gave me the love, support and comfort I needed.

She truly did come to my rescue and I have never forgotten that and I never will. I am one of those you speak of, who she took into her home and so freely gave her love, laughter, food, shelter and comfort to.

I am so thankful for the time we got to spend with each other several years ago when she came up to WA. I never imagined it would be the last time I would see her. I just wish I had taken some pictures of those days we spent together.

I love the picture you picked, it is how I remember her best. She had such a beautiful, infectious smile and that picture captures it so beautifully.

Much love, sympathy and prayers going out to all of you.

Susy had a great gift for caring about people and wanting to serve. She was a wonderful helper in the early days of Many Meals. We first met when she heard of our work with homeless people. She sought me out to provide baby clothes for needy families. She will be remembered long and well for her good heart and how she wanted her children to be happy. I wish I could have helped more with the complications. God knows her heart.
