Gary Beardsley Obituary

Gary Dell Beardsley

Carrollton, GA

January 19, 1936 ? March 13, 2018

Gary went home to his Lord and Savior on March 13, 2018 with his loving wife Pamala Dade Beardsley by his side at their residence in Carrollton, Georgia where they have resided since 2015.

Gary was born to Kenneth and Dorothy Beardsley and raised in Tacoma, Washington along with four brothers; Robert, Mick, Gene and Dennis. Gary now joins his parents and brothers; Robert and Mick, in heaven.

Gary served the US Navy from 1954 to 1958 as a Yeoman; administrative clerk to the Captain of the destroyer USS Dixie. He earned Petty Officer 3rd Class.

His family relocated to Port Hueneme, CA in the late 1950s, and Gary moved there after his naval service. In 1959, he joined Raytheon Corporation, providing various skill sets including manpower forecasting for more than two decades. Gary then devoted 15 more years at CBC Port Hueneme Naval Surface Warfare Division until his retirement in 2000.

In 1959 he married Lois Beardsley. They had a son Craig Beardsley in 1966 and a daughter Stacy Handley in 1969. As for grandchildren, from Craig he gained Colt and Grace Beardsley. Stacy provided him with Sierra and Spencer Handley.

In 1984, Gary and Pamala were married in Ventura, CA. This union brought three stepsons, Eric, Scott and Bryan Tarpley, into the family. Additionally, he gained Carrie and Joann as daughter-in-laws along with eight more grandchildren; Erin, Allyson, Jordan, Megan, Morgan, Austin, Christian and Katie.

Growing up Gary enjoyed playing basketball. While raising a family in Ventura County he discovered his interest for soccer and desire to bring it to his community. In 1975, Gary as Commissioner founded AYSO region 148, covering Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Due to enormous growth, in 1981 he split the regions with north Oxnard to create Region 304. He also served as a coach and referee.

His passions included camping, fishing, golfing, watching soccer live or on TV, in both English and Spanish, the History Channel, growing vegetable gardens; avocadoes in particular, grilling tri-tips, sipping the occasional scotch and soda, and socializing with strangers. In fact he never met a stranger!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Baptist. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday March 24, 2018 at 2:00pm at Trinity Baptist 501 Northside Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117 (770) 834-5181, with a reception immediately following.

Hi Dad, it´s 2023 and almost 5 years since you left us. I think of you often and miss our special times together. You would have loved watching Messi in the World Cup last December. Kept imagining you here next to me cheering him on while critiquing all the plays. Life continues to have its challenges, wish you were here to talk to.
Miss you dad. I love you

Just two weeks away from you leaving us four years ago. So much has happened in the world since then and not necessarily for the good. Thinking about you today dad. Was dreaming last night about our early Saturday mornings on the soccer fields chalking the lines and placing the corner flags in preparation for the full days of AYSO games. You were so devoted to it and taught me so much through your leadership and organization. I miss you dad.

Good morning Dad, just thinking about you again. I can't believe you have been gone almost six months now. Many things have happened in the family since then, good and bad. Time seems to fly by and I realize we need to appreciate every day we have here. Hope you are still enjoying heavenly golf and soccer games. I love you Dad

Pam and family, I have known Gary for a number of years. I knew him before he worked at NSWC-PHD because he worked with my dad at Raytheon, which is how I first met him. I became good friends with him when he hired on at the base. As stated in his fantastically written obituary he started soccer in all of Ventura County and that was something he was so proud of. I spoke with him about the fact that I was 'roped' into coaching my daughter's soccer team and I knew nothing about the game. He said well if you need help let me know. I said OK....I need help. On that Tuesday he said he couldn't start until the next practice scheduled for Thursday. But when I showed up just minutes before the scheduled start time on Tuesday he was there, his cleats on and ready to practice. He was the best coach I had ever worked with. The girls on the team would tell me, "you're so lucky Coach Rich you get the see Coach Gary everyday!" Gary was the definition of a true GENTLE Man. I only wish that I could play golf with him one more time to see his unique facial expression when he hit the ball or to listen to one of his stupid jokes. He will be missed and I will pray for him and his family. Thanks, Pam for sharing him with us!!

My condolences to the family. I worked with Gary during his time at NSWC PHD and travelled with him to numerous locations. He loved his golf game, and we played many rounds and tournaments with each other, including a great time playing on Andrews AFB outside of DC.

I will miss his comforting voice and his always positive attitude.

May God bless you during this difficult time.
