Bill G. Corkins Obituary
Bill G. Corkins

Ventura, CA

Bill Corkins went to heaven on Easter Sunday after a brief and courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, son of William Grandin Corkins and Dorothy Ottenfeld Corkins, on Jan. 10, 1939. He attended Miami University and Case Western Reserve, graduating with a double degree in electrical engineering in 1961. Upon graduation he accepted a job with Procter & Gamble. He had a number of assignments in both the soap division and paper products facilities. In addition to working in Cincinnati he had additional assignments in Chicago and Albany, Georgia. In 1974 he transferred to Oxnard, California to help start a new paper plant. It was at the Oxnard plant where he met his wife Diane Federle who also transferred to Oxnard from P&G Corporate Headquarters in Cincinnati. Bill and Diane were blessed with 38 years of marriage. From 1984-86 they had the privilege of taking a leave of absence from P&G to serve in the Peace Corps on the island of Dominica in the West Indies. They returned to the Oxnard plant until their retirement in 1990. After retirement, they enjoyed camping across the United States and Canada, visiting most of the national parks. They were very involved in the community though their volunteer work with several nonprofit agencies. One of their proudest contributions was starting the Adelante Scholarship fund which gives tuition aid to Latinas/os for up to four years of college. The scholarships are administered by the Ventura Community Foundation. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura at 10:00 a.m. on April 26, 2018. Diane and Bill were married on April 26, 1980 so this ceremony celebrates the completion of the "Circle of Life and Love" for them. In addition to his wife, Diane, Bill is survived by his brother Jim and sister-in-law Janet, niece Kathy and her beautiful family, and nephew David and his wonderful family and all of Diane's siblings and their families. Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him professionally and personally. He believed in treating everyone with dignity and respect and generously shared himself and his resources with those in need. In lieu of flowers, Bill request that you treat yourself or someone you love with something special!
