Leonora Maurycy

Ventura - 1929 ~ 2019

Leonora Maurycy, passed away April 29, 2019 just days shy of her 90th birthday, with her family by her side. She was born in Schenectady, NY on May 5, 1929 to Boleslaw (Ben) Maurycy and Jadwiga (Edith) Maurycy. She spent her childhood in Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School, Schenectady and State University at Oswego, NY in 1951 with her Bachelor degree. She later received her Masters from University of Southern California in 1975.

She was an elementary school teacher for 41 years. She began her career in 1951 in New York, then moved to Ventura, CA in 1964 to be near her brother, Robert and his wife Ann Mary. She began teaching in the Ojai Unified School district and then for the Ventura Unified District (where she played an integral part in the inception of the Teachers Union) until she retired in 1992. She then moved to NY to care for her elderly mother.

She returned to Ventura in 2002 and joined the Retired Teachers Association and was acting President at one time. She enjoyed her time with the organization and her monthly luncheons with her colleagues.

She was always cheerful and giving to family and friends and all of her favorite charities. She loved spending time with her family and her great grand-niece and nephew were the light of her life. She is best known for her annual Christmas letter that was sent to all of her friends and family. We all will miss her special letters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Robert.

She is survived by her only nephew, Michael Maurycy and his wife, Cyndi and their two children, Lainey & Brewer. She became a huge part of the Mosbarger family also when Michael and Cyndi married.

She will be greatly missed by all that have known and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to in her name.

A celebration of life will be held Friday May 17, 2019 at Aloha Steak House in Ventura from 5-7 p.m.
