Stephen John Spado Obituary
Stephen John Spado

Camarilo, CA

Stephen John Spado of Bend, Oregon and Camarillo, California passed peacefully at home on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Born on June 21, 1927 to Anthony and Elizabeth Spado, Stephen spent his formative years in Rome, New York. He served in the United States Navy, and later went on to enjoy a thirty year career with General Motors.

While still living in Rome, Stephen met and married Nina Giambona, on June 7, 1952. They had two children - Steven and Debbie - before relocating to Southern California, where they would reside until after Stephen's retirement. In 1994 the couple decided to spend their remaining years traveling between a retirement home in Bend, Oregon, and their daughter's home in Camarillo, California.

From his earliest of days, a traditional, Italian American upbringing instilled in Stephen the importance of family, which would serve to be the bedrock of his entire life. In his final days, people would say they had always cherished Stephen like a grandfather; his niece Paula enjoyed her time with him as if she were a daughter; and, many of his daughter Debbie's close friends were known to care for him as if he were a father to them as well.

An avid lover of life, Stephen shared his interests with everyone he came across. He enjoyed golf, bocce ball, the horse races, puzzles, and BINGO; Italian food and reading, and was always up for a good shot of whiskey.

The old saying goes: "when you touch someone's heart, they will never quite be the same again - part of your life will live in them always." It would be impossible to count the number of lives in which Stephen John Spado will live on.

Stephen is preceded in death by his mother and father, his son, his three brothers - Angelo, Pat, and Joey; and many other family and friends that have passed before him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nina; his daughter, Debbie, and her husband Vince; his sister and her husband, Lucille and Dave Hilt; his grandson Nicholas, and his wife and three children, Heather, Alexis, Ava, and Andrew; his grandson, Mark, and his wife and daughter, Melody and Nola; and countless family members and friends.

The Spados, Giambonas, Philbrooks, Hills, Fortinis, Garcias, and other family and friends will be joining Stephen's ashes with his beloved son, who he lovingly called Stevie, off the west coast in the Pacific Ocean, in a private ceremony and celebration of his life.
