Albert Joseph Gonelli Jr., 78, of Ojai, CA, passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 29th, 2017 after a short bout with cancer. Al was born in Placerville, CA, on January 7, 1939, the only child of Albert and Noreen Gonelli. He attended El Dorado High School in Placerville, and graduated in 1957. He went on to earn an AA degree in Engineering at Sacramento City College. After 39 years with the California Department of Transportation as a Structural Engineer, he retired in 1999 to spend time with family and to travel. As the family patriarch, he treasured family above all else and often went to great lengths and sacrifice to ensure they could be together as often as possible. His sense of humor was renowned and was only surpassed by his gentleness and caring for others. He was proud of his faith, and for 52 years, remained active in his parish at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ojai.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Judith, of Ojai, son Douglas and his wife Richelle of Round Rock, TX, son Keith and his wife Becky of Fayetteville, AR, son Steven of Round Rock, TX, and son Paul of Ojai, CA. He is survived by five grandchildren: Tyler, Jacob, Anthony and Nicole of Round Rock, TX and Kevin of Ojai, CA.
Reverend James Clifford will officiate funeral services on Friday, January 19th, at 6:00pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 185 St. Thomas Drive, in Ojai CA. The arrangements are under the care of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 757 E. Main, Ventura CA.
