Karen Diane Kelly Obituary
Karen Diane Kelly

Ventura, CA

Karen Diane Kelly, age 57, passed away suddenly at her residence in Ventura in late September 2018. A memorial bike ride in Karen's honor will be held Sunday October 14 at 9am details at sespe.org/karen. For Minecraft fans a digital memorial will be held at DMZcraft on Saturday, October 6th at 6PM PT. Donations may be made to support Karen's children at scc.to/karen.

Karen was born December 12, 1960 and adopted by Verlis Clark (deceased) and Wallace Clark (deceased). She moved to Ventura in 1985, considering this place her spiritual home. She taught herself how to build and program computers and supplemented her innate talents with schooling at Chabot College in 1979 and Ventura College in the late nineties before really hitting her stride as a web designer. She worked as a web developer for the cutting-edge Thousand Oaks-based design firm RKS Design from 2005-2010.

Since 2011 she worked primarily in the cannabis industry joining Sespe Creek Collective to manage the website and answer phone inquiries from medical cannabis patients. Known fondly as "OG Karen" she worked directly with patients and learned as much as she could about medical cannabis. Her experiments with homemade tinctures led her to a self-described profound transformation, from clinically obese with COPD to power bicyclist within about 6 months. She continued to study the healing powers of what she viewed as a complex and fascinating plant, and created beautiful and informative brochures, infographics, presentations and tutorials to help educate patients. Shortly before she passed she was celebrating with coworkers the honor of winning "2018 Best Cannabis Dispensary" Award from the VC Reporter.

Outside of work, Karen became an almost fanatical cyclist, riding over 10,000 miles in 2016. She was working on restoring a vintage van and socializing two stray cats in her spare time. Karen also had a large virtual social network, achieving impressive followings on various social media platforms and engaging regularly with her Minecraft community. She was known as dotlizard to her online friends and hosted DMZcraft.

She is survived by her cherished daughter Amanda Jayne Moir, beloved sons Kurtwood Schertzer and Sean Michael McIntyre, and four grandchildren: Jameson Conner Palatian age 13, Robby James Palatian age 9, Nina Jayne Palatian age 7 and Cristian Alexander Palatian age 5. Karen will join her sweet son Alexander Wallace Moir on the other side.
