J. "BLACKIE" HERNANDEZ

CUERO - J. "Blackie" Hernandez, 82, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2007. He was born July 19, 1925, in Cuero, to Guillermo and Guillerma Flores Hernandez. He married Amelia Sertuche in 1960. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Hernandez had worked for Gus Cage and later for Fred Hansen's Turkey Hatchery and Feed Store for many years.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Lydia Gomez of Cuero, Erma Villarreal and husband Danny of Cuero, Molly Escobedo of Cuero, and Irene Gonzales and husband Walter of Victoria; sons, Ernest Sertuche and wife Nelda of Yorktown, Robert Hernandez of Cuero, and Jesse Hernandez and wife Rachael of Cuero; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Benita Flores and Catherine Longoria; and five brothers, Theodore Hernandez, Leonides Hernandez, Amador Hernandez, Pascual Hernandez and Concepion Hernandez.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. today at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Marcus Escobedo, Demetrius Escobedo, Danny Villarreal, John Vela III, Bradly Hernandez, Tim Gonzales and Adam Gonzales.
Honorary pallbearers are Manuel Gonzales, Joe Serna, Albert Anzualda, Ricky Varela, Davida Varela, Marcello Varela, Pedro Hernandez and Jay Gomez.
