DAVID MARION OHRT

VICTORIA - David Marion Ohrt, 70, of Victoria, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family in prayer when God called him home. He was born in Victoria to the late Marion and Burnette Scherer Ohrt.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice Doehrman of Meyersville, daughter of Floyd and Doris Doehrman; two sisters: Sandra Hester of Victoria and Judy Sinast of Yorktown; sons, Garrett and wife, Julie, and Clay and wife, Wendy; and daughter, Sally Leinen and husband, Robert, all of Victoria. He was proudly called "Pa" by his eight grandchildren: Cole, Kade and Colton Ohrt, Kyler and Natalie Ohrt, and Darcy, David James, and Deana Leinen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Emily Ohrt; infant son, James Damian; and many of his old cattle working buddies, good horses, and well trained cow dogs.
David, a lifetime self employed rancher, was an active member of St's. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Meyersville where he served on the church council, as a Eucharistic minister and an usher. He was Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #13010. He served on the Victoria County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was proud to have served his country in the Texas National Guard.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the conclusion of the rosary.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St's. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Meyersville, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, with burial following.

I was honored to work beside you when you taught 3rd grade in Mission Valley, next to Linda Sager. I also observed how close you were/and are to your family. You are blessed to have them support you during this time in your life. If you ever need to talk please feel free to call me. I care, and will lift you up in prayer along with your family. Janice and Family:

Marsha and I are sorry for the families loss of David. I can remeber when I moved to Mission Valley in 1974 and wanted to play fast pitch softball and drove up to the Mission Valley school and ask if I could play with them. David was the one that excepted me and from that day on I had the most respect for him.
David is every man's idle. I am so glad I got to meet him and considered him a very special person.

Four little words have stuck in my mind
From the time I was just a small child
“There's a good feller” is what he would say
When he talked of the men he admired

I remember those men he talked about
Sure ‘nuff cowboys, tough, but kind
They said what they meant and meant what they said
These men are getting' harder to find

“There's a good feller,” meant he was true to his word
That's all you expect of a man
You knew for sure he was proud to meet you
By the genuine shake of his hand

“There's a good feller,” meant you could depend
On this man no matter the task
Never got too tough, too cold, or too late
For his help, all you need do is ask

“There's a good feller,” meant he had a light hand
Be it with horses or cattle or crew
He spent most of his life learning this cowboy trade
And he'd be honored to teach it to you

“There' a good feller” meant don't ask him to do
What ain't on a true and honest track
He knows it's easier to keep a good reputation
Than it is to try to build one back

“There's a good feller,” meant he's a fair minded man
He helped write cowboyin's unwritten laws
He won't ask you to do what he wouldn't do
Yet knows, at times, the short end you'll draw

“There's a good feller,” meant, when he's down on his luck
He can still hold his head way up high
‘Cause he did his best and gave it his all
He knows with faith and God's help he'll get by

“There's a good feller”, just four little words
And their meaning won't run all that deep
But when Dad would use ‘em to describe certain men
You knew they were at the top of the heap

“There's a good feller”, just four little words
But they've always been favorites of mine
If after my trails end, my name's brought up
“There's a good feller” would suit me just fine

We are at a loss of words....David's passing is a loss that can not be expressed with words. Our prayers and deepest sympathy are with his family and friends. An Icon of a man has left life on earth to ride ahead of the herd.

Marvin and I always enjoyed having David stop in at our store when he was working cattle in the Yorktown area. He always had something to say that would make us laugh. We all rejoice that he is home with his heavenly Father. He will be missed.
