Norah Meyer Obituary

Norah A. Meyer Norah A. Meyer passed peacefully from this world into the next on Sunday, December 9th 2012. Norah was born in London, England on January 1st, 1921 to William and Norah Holland. Norah survived many transitions in her long life including the London Blitz, moving to the United States and a further move to California at the age of 80. In 1944, while attached to the US Armed Forces in Ascot, England as a civilian working in the PX she met Bill Meyer, a native of Florissant, MO. They married on October 10, 1945 in Bad Kissingen, Germany where they were stationed. Norah sailed to America in the spring of 1946 in a ship filled with 1500 other War Brides. She made her home with Bill in Florissant and lived there with him until his death in 1992. In the fall of 2000 she became a California Girl and built a whole new life for herself. She loved living at The Town Meadows in downtown Visalia and quickly went from volunteering to working part-time in the office there and as back-up Resident-On-Call. "If anything ever happens to me" she would often say, "make sure everybody knows that working in the office with those girls was the happiest time of my life." Our heartfelt love and thanks go out to "those girls"--Sharon Wright, Elsa Sims, Kathleen Miller and Vanessa Villalobos--who became part of her family forever. Norah is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Patricia Holland, her husband William T. Meyer, brother-and sister-in-law Herbert and Flora Meyer and brother-in-law Walter Meyer. Norah is survived by her daughter, Anne Meyer, Anne's partner Gail Williamson who Norah always referred to as "my other girl", her sister-in-law Hazel B. Meyer; her nephews Walter Meyer, Bob Meyer and Herb Meyer and many, many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Just as she made the Meyer family her own in Missouri, she became a part of the Williamson/Collins/Greene clan here in California. We want to thank the amazing nursing staff on 4 South at Kaweah Delta Hospital, especially Norah's very own personal angels Rachelle, Rae Ann, Stacey and Maria. We also want to thank Kaweah Delta Hospice for providing exceptional care during the short time we were able to bring Norah home. Special thanks goes to Norah's dear friend Sally Flores who came to our rescue when our own nursing skills fell short and made Norah more comfortable than we ever could have; and to Father Xavier Pappalliyil who gently guided Norah into the "peace that passes all understanding." Finally we want to thank Dr. Raman Verma, a healer of uncommon skill and compassion, who treated Norah with love, respect and humor until the end of her life.. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Norah's life will be held early in 2013 at The Town Meadows; actual date and arrangements are pending. Memorials in Norah's honor may be made to Kaweah Delta Hospice, 900 W. Oak, Visalia, CA 93292. Tributes and condolences may be made at www.millerchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291 (559) 732-8371.
