Dixie June "MeMa" Fought Obituary
Dixie June Fought "MeMa" Dixie June Fought, "MeMa", passed away on January 2, 2013 after a short illness. Dixie was born on August 2, 1934 to Orville Bron (O.B.) and Dessie Greer of Lindsay, CA where she grew up. On January 19, 1952, Dixie married the love of her life, Vern Fought. They raised their family in Lindsay and in 1985 moved to Exeter. Dixie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Dixie is survived by her husband Vern and her six children: son Larry Fought and wife Linda from Morganfield, KY, daughter Nancy Veteto and husband Mark of Visalia, CA, daughter Denise Palmer and husband Bill of Visalia, CA, son Scott and wife Shelly of Exeter, CA, daughter Melissa Glick of Visalia, CA and daughter Lori Blue and husband Vahnn of Lindsay, CA. Dixie leaves 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren along with two of her sisters, Anita Kurz Braly of Strathmore and Donna Brooks of Visalia. January 19th would have been Dixie and Vern's 61st anniversary. This was something they were very proud of setting a wonderful example to their children. Dixie was known to everyone as "MeMa". A name she wore proudly that was given to her by her first grandchild Mark Veteto 42 years ago. A name that has stuck to this day by her family and friends. Mom was so proud of her husband and family and loved spending time with them. She loved gardening, crocheting, reading, traveling and RVing with her family. Dixie loved spending time with her sisters and church friends. Her friends and family state that they will always remember her beautiful, sparkly smile with just a hint of "spit fire" in it. It was a real treat being out and about and running into Dixie. She was always quick to bring people up to date on her family. Peace is brought to Dixie's family knowing that she loved God with all her heart and personally knew Jesus Christ. Dixie loved and cherished her family and was never at a loss of words when she talked about her kids and their families. Dixie is leaving a wonderful legacy to our world and the people she loved. She was a real treasure and certainly one of a kind. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives. The family would like to thank Kaweah Delta Hospital for the care that was given to Dixie and the compassion they extended to Vern and his family at this difficult time. Celebration of Life for Dixie will be held on Saturday, January 12th, 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church, 19661 Roth Rd. in Strathmore, CA.
