Elaine Wilma Hornbostel
Granite City - Elaine Wilma Hornbostel, 92, of Granite City, Illinois and a longtime resident of Tulare, California passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City. She was born July 7, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas, a daughter of the late William Richard and Clara (Buss) Miessler. She married Richard Robert Hornbostel on August 18, 1949 in Deshler, Nebraska and he passed away in 2002. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Granite City, enjoyed volunteering with Thrivent and Aid Association for Lutherans and contributed to the Lutheran Hour. She enjoyed her days of crocheting and taking care of her family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert John and Sarah Hornbostel of Granite City; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Elaine and Joseph Costa of Tulare, California; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lambert, Richard and Wilford Miessler.
Visitation will be at Sterling and Smith Funeral Home, 409 North K Street in Tulare, California on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Joel Luckemeyer officiating. Burial will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California will be on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO. 63141.
