Jeanne Horton Obituary
Jeanne Horton October 13, 1926 - October 16, 2012 Jeanne Horton passed away October 16, 2012 after a full and rewarding life. Born in Los Angeles, California on October 13, 1926, Jean Reimers was the daughter of Hazel and John Howard Reimers. She was raised in Hollywood, California and enjoyed sharing stories about her neighbor, a young girl who took singing and piano lessons, Frances Gumm, a.k.a. Judy Garland. Jeanne graduated from Belmont High School. When her sweetheart, Albert L. Horton, Jr., returned from serving in the Marine Corp during World War II, they were married on June 16, 1947 in Woodlake, California. Al and Jeanne lived in Woodlake for 30 years where they raised their two daughters, Jacklyn and Geraldyne, and became very active community members. Jeanne was primarily a homemaker, though she did work thirteen years for the Woodlake Unified School District as the first woman bus driver, and then later moved to a position in the school cafeteria. After retirement, Al and Jeanne moved to Visalia. Jeanne loved to play cards (particularly solitaire), knit, and travel. She was an excellent cook and had a talent for baking and making jams and jellies from local produce. In retirement, she and Al traveled extensively in the United States via road trips and RVing with friends. A family trip to Hawaii and a cruise to Alaska were both very memorable and fun-filled vacations. They also had amazing trips abroad to England, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, and Germany. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacklyn and Charles Fairchild; daughter and son-in-law Geraldyne and Charles Heinz; three grandchildren: Melissa, Michael, and Sherilyn; six great-grandchildren; and a newborn great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert L. Horton, Jr., and siblings: Jack Reimers, Robert Reimers, and Ruth "Eileen" Pruitt. A small private memorial service will be held in Woodlake, California at a later date where she and Al will be interned in the family plot at the Woodlake Cemetery. Her memory and presence will continue in the hearts of her family and friends.
