Not sure what to say?

I met Mel at SCCA and his wife when I was going through my multiple myeloma journey. He was picking up his medication, my husband and I heard his name called and he took the time to talk to us about his journey going through his stem cell transplant. I had my transplant at CTCA in 2018-2019 and though I am now relapsed I will always appreciate his kind words and outlook about myeloma. I do regret not asking for his autograph! It didn´t even occur to me till later. Such a kind man to help me...

I knew Mel through my uncle Garland Goodwin. Mostly from my uncles fishing and hunting stories with Mel and Pete Mickleson. I went hunting with him and Tiger when I was 15 on Bickleton Hill. I was sorry to hear about your loss. I still brag that I knew Mel and people remember him. I wish your family all the best.

Mel was my hero all during my childhood and teen years and his class and steadiness were great examples to me. May God bless you. Dave Bosher Richmond, VA

As one of Mel's high school teachers in Mabton, WA, I attest to the fact that he was a fine young man even at that early age. He wasn't even 6 feet tall when I first met him in 1957, but he was a growing athlete. He was a great student to have in class. I even had his younger brother, Keith in class. Their autographs are in my Mabton Yearbooks.
