Gary Eugene Brown

November 02, 1939 - March 16, 2016

Gary E. Brown went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2016. His passing came peacefully at his home in Visalia, CA after a three year battle with a lung disease. Gary was born on November 2, 1939 in Springfield, Missouri to Maurice and Zelma Pauline (Pearce) Brown. He married Sherrill Stewart November 20, 1971. Gary spent most of his professional career in law enforcement, many of those years as Police Chief in Chowchilla, San Clemente, Monterey, and Ashland, Oregon. He also spent time as Deputy City Manager in Visalia. He was passionate about his faith, family, and in preserving the memory of the cowboy way of life. To preserve cowboy culture, Gary hosted a radio show, founded cowboy music festivals, and even produced cowboy music. He was active in Pointman Ministries, a ministry of law enforcement professionals spreading the word of God to people in countries such as Russia, Bolivia, and China.

Gary is survived by Sherrill, his wife of 44 years, his sons Matt, Travis, and Jordan, his daughter-in-laws Heidi and Megan, and his grandchildren Dakota, Devynn, Dillon, Beau, Dawson, Luke, and Belle.

Funeral Services will be held at Calvary Chapel on Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00. The church is located at 11720 Avenue 264, Visalia, CA. There will be a gathering immediately following the service at 12160 MidValley Road in Visalia. Gary's wish was that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pointman Ministries.
