Bertha Eva Meyer September 28, 1920 - November 1, 2012 Bertha was born in Long Beach, CA to Henry and Effie Mae Davis. She was the last of three sisters and five brothers. At 5 ft 4 she excelled in basketball and baseball. In her youth, she loved ballroom dancing and body surfing. She was married to George Meyer, a farmer of Stratford, CA, and together they had 5 children, one boy and 4 girls. She was President of Women's Club and PTA. She originated the Teen Club dances in Stratford. She was also director of the Red Cross Swimming program for Stratford and Lemoore for many years. She founded the Presbyterian Youth Group at the church. During their married years Bertha and George enjoyed flying to Mexico, Canada and the East Coast in their Bonanza. Being members of the California Flying Farmers Association they attended many International Flying Farmer conventions. Bertha was an avid camper, loved the mountains and the beach and was enthusiastic about bird watching. She delighted her grandchildren with her knowledge of the major baseball teams, and pro football teams. She followed Fresno State, San Francisco's 49rs and Giants faithfully. Bertha attended Fresno City College and completed her CNA certification at the age of 62. She worked for many years caring for the elderly, many who were prominent citizens in the Fresno area. She wrote a couple of articles for the Fresno Bee on two patients. At 83 she was awarded the most inspirational employee at San Joaquin Gardens in Fresno. She retired at the age of 84. Bertha was very strong in her faith, and is exactly where she wants to be, with her Lord. Bertha is survived by her 5 children: Charles Meyer of Stratford, Janet Darby of Phoenix, Susan Fetterly of Atherton, Kerrell Lewis of Visalia, and Nancy Meyer of Morgan Hill, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the First Christian Church, 1023 N. Chinowth, Visalia, CA 93291, (559)-732-6623, on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:30 am, with internment at Lemoore Cemetery. Donations may be given to her beloved church, First Christian Church in Visalia.
