Ross Hafferkamp Obituary
Hafferkamp, Ross 75, of Newberry, passed away peacefully on Monday May 14, 2018. Born August 8, 1942 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, son of the late George and Ella (Stewart) Hafferkamp, Ross served as a U.S. Army Green Beret in Vietnam from October 1959 until his honorable discharge in August 1962. On August 12, 1967, Ross married Carla Stettin at St. James Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe. They resided in Fair Haven for 25 years. During that time, Ross worked for Chrysler and then Ford Motor Company Utica Trim Plant, retiring in 1996 and moving to Deer Park. Ross was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, B.P.O.E. #1705, F.O.E. Aerie #3701, American Legion Post #74, McMillan Lodge #400 F&AM and the Gray Dragons-UP Chapter. Ross' passions were spending May in Indianapolis for the Indy 500, working at Oswald's Bear Ranch and riding his motorcycle especially for charity runs. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. Ross is survived by his wife Carla; children Erika (Jeff) DeLange of New Baltimore, Scott (Nichole) of Gig Harbor, WA, and Kyleen (Matt) Olson of Tracy, MN; six grandchildren; siblings Giles (Rebecca) of Kalispell, MT, Fay (Ron) McLaughlin of Oak Park and Gail (Rick) Venner of Traverse City; and thirteen nephews and nieces. Per request, Ross donated his body for research to the University of Michigan Medical School. A memorial service is being planned for Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Newberry Elks Lodge.
