Roy Riddell Hurst
June 2, 1933 - August 29, 2019

Roy Riddell Hurst was born in the city of Alhambra on June 2nd, 1933; he passed away on August 29th, 2019 at Desert Valley Hospital in the city of Victorville, California. He was 86 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Rhodes Hurst, born in Mound City, Missouri, and Grace Phoebe Bateman, born in Pueblo, Colorado; his sons Mark and Joe; brother Glen; niece Connie; and beloved wives Rosalie, Jo Ann and Patricia. Roy lived, worked and played in the San Gabriel Valley for the majority of his life. After retirement, he spent the last 25 years living in the hills above the desert town of Phelan, California. Years before that, he spent his weekends racing across underdeveloped and open desert riding his various motorcycles. All the while teaching his wife Jo Ann, and his sons and daughters, how to ride as well. Summers were spent vacationing at Bass Lake, where we would go camping, fishing, skiing and hiking. He could never sit still for more than 5 minutes at at time, even during the last several months of life, when he required a walker and portable oxygen device to get around, he kept going and going and going 'til the very end. He will always be remembered for his generosity, commitment to family and mischievous pot-stirring humor; and as a BIG FLIRT with the ladies. The last pictures that were taken of him, 12 days before his passing, are of him making 2 women laugh after listening to one of his many, many stories. In fact, his last moments of conscious hours in the hospital were spent chatting up with the nurses. A dedicated and loving father, he is survived by 5 children, Joy (Roy Pigott), Vicky (Jack Switzler), Roy Jr. (Anna Tran), Ronald (Ramona Segarra) and Pamela (Dan Howard); 8 grandchildren, Joseph, Jason, Amber, Eric, Crystal, Starla, Nizhoni and Ryan; 12 great-granchildren, Ashley, Connor, Leia, Kaylee, Sunda, Cali, Devon, Carson, Codie, Alexander, Maya and Jason Jr.; and his beloved wives, Linda and Barbara. Dad, we will miss you everyday for the rest of our lives.
