Sylvester Blue Obituary

Sylvester Blue, a 16-year resident of Apple Valley, went to his heavenly home Dec. 31, 2006, at 7:30 a.m. Born Jan. 22, 1940, in Praco, Ala., Sylvester was the son of James Blue and Mary Pearl Parker. During his early years, Sylvester's family moved to West Virginia, where he enjoyed listening to his dad sing baritone with the gospel quartet group that traveled throughout West Virginia and the eastern United States. Sylvester's singing career began at the age of 5 when his grandmother would have him sing special songs during the church services. At the age of 15, Sylvester's family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended John Adams High School and was the baritone/tenor with the high school quartet. After graduation from high school he was accepted into the Cleveland Conservatory of Music. While attending college he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as military advisor. Even in the military, his talents were known among the officers. He would often sing for the generals parties and special events. After completing his time in the U.S. Army, Sylvester returned to college to complete his degree. He was the music and choir director for the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, where he met his wife, Sylvia, who sang in the choir. They were married July 24, 1975. Sylvia was truly a helpmate to Sylvester, supporting and encouraging him as they traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, England and Korea. Sylvester's love and passion has always been for music. Sylvester is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sylvia; four daughters, Arnetta, Felicia, Heather and Angel; one son, Sylvester James; mother, Mary Pearl Parker; son-in-law Robert Ahrens; one brother, James Blue; one sister, Janice Blue of Los Angeles; and a host of relatives and friends, who so faithfully encouraged and prayed for him. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Sunset Hills Mortuary Chapel, 24000 Waalew Road in Apple Valley. A celebration of Sylvester's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Hills Mortuary. Sunset Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.

I was fortunate enough to have met Mr. Blue in a old fashioned theatre in Indio California in the early 1980´s he was truly a good man.
The theater was huge looked like something from 1940´s, I think it burned down, it no longer is there.
I was trying to buy on of his music cassette tapes and when I went to pay for it he said your paying to much and he sold the tape to me for less

I remember his anointed singing, seemed to me as a very humble man - a man of God.
