Herbert Howard Mintz
Died on February 27, 2021, after living 4 1/2 years with pancreatic cancer. He was 74 years old. Left behind to miss him forever are his wife of 51 years, Bobbe, his two daughters, Bara Hollander (Jon) and Stephanie Mintz (Noah Steinberg), his four perfect grandchildren, Andrew, Megan and Mathew Hollander, and Joseph Steinberg, two brothers, Arnold Mintz (Helen) and Bill Mintz (Lillyan), Lois and Jay Steinberg, nine nieces and nephews and 14 grandnieces and nephews as well as myriad friends, colleagues and devotees of the topics he chose to write and speak about in his retirement. Herb was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 24, 1946. After attending Cooper Union where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering and George Washington University School of Law, Herb served for two years as a law clerk to a federal appellate judge and joined the patent law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett and Dunner where he spent his entire career practicing patent litigation, including an appearance before the United States Supreme Court. Herb also was a composer of many children and adult musicals along with his dear friend and creative partner, Frank DiCostanzo (Joan) who wrote the book and lyrics. A private graveside burial will be held on March 1, 2021. A funeral will take place on Zoom. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the The Jewish Council for the Aging,www.accessjca.org or Temple Sinai Library Fund (www. templesinaidc.org).

I so enjoyed our times together at the book club so many years ago. Herb was a lovely person and one of my favorites. Larry and I send our sincere condolences and know he will be missed.

"Herbie" as I knew him, was a friend from early elementary school at PS 167, through Junior High PS 210 and Wingate High School. He always had a cheerful outlook and was a real mensch at all times. I'm happy to read that he had a career in music- I recall how well he played the piano even as a pre-teen. Here's his yearbook photo.

The news of Herb’s passing made me reflect again on what a wonderful person he is and what a wonderful life he lead. His life goes on in my thought and I will always have the great memories of practicing law with him for so many years and having him as my partner and friend for so long. I am especially pleased that he could join our recent retired partner Zoom call in December. We all were so happy to see him and hear him that night. I know the last few years must have been a huge challenge for him and for his wife and family. Our love and prayers are with them and with Herb for the future.

Herb was a dear friend to me and an inspiration as the ideal of who an attorney should be: knowledgable, always perfecting his craft, with honesty and ethics as his hallmark. He was a dear and loving husband to Bobbe and a cherished parent to his children. He will be missed.
