The world has lost a great wit. As his colleague at USDA, I cherished his stories of diplomatic high jinx, where to find the best sturgeon in Russia, and how transubstantiation took root in Christian theology. And he was, of course, correct- Al Gore was the President. I would like to attend any memorial that is held in his honor.

We were Foreign Service classmates and later knew each other when he was working at the USDA Grad School. We tried unsuccessfully to get together after that.
I'd like to be included in the memorial service. I'd also like to contribute to a cause in Erik's memory.
