Kerry Byrnes Obituary
DR. KERRY J. BYRNES
Kerry J. Byrnes passed away on March 24, 2023 at the age of 77 following a brief illness. He grew up near E. Lansing, MI and received his BA in Sociology and an MA in Communication from Michigan State University, and his Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from Iowa State University. Over his 40+ year career, he worked mostly in support of USAID assistance to developing countries.
He was the son of Dr. Francis C. and Ethel B. (Overholt) Byrnes. He is survived by his wife (Sonia), his brother (Kevin) and his wife (Joan), his sister (Kathryn) and her husband (Jim), his son (Shannon) and his wife (Jeannine), his grandson (Braden) and his step-grandson (Matthew).
Visitation will be held April 3, at 10:30 a.m. until a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at the Money & King Funeral Home, located at 171 Maple Ave. W, Vienna, VA 22180.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor can be sent to the American Heart Association. The memorial service will be live-streamed (http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/86455) and his full obituary will be available on the Money & King website.

Kerry helped shape a generation of USAID foreign service officers. As a new officer many years ago, Kerry was so welcoming, knowledgeable, kind, enthusiastic, positive and willing to share his expertise so that we could be better foreign service officers. I will always be grateful that working with and learning from Kerry was one of my first experiences with USAID.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Kerry. I was a colleague of Kerry. We worked together at USAID. He was a warm and thoughtful person. We shared many laughs and family stories. May he rest in peace.
