ARNOLD SAGALYN (Age 99)  

A respected pioneer in law enforcement and former journalist, died on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was aide to Elliot Ness during his tenure as Chief of Police and Fire in Cleveland, Ohio, appointed as Director of Law Enforcement Coordination of the Treasury Department by Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, elected as Senior Vice President of Interpol and innovator of the 911 emergency assistance phone number. He was also the founding trustee of the International Center of Photography, a journalist for Time Life Magazine, and photo-editor of the New York Times. World War II Veteran, honorably discharged. Arnold Sagalyn is survived by his wife of 59 years Louise; daughters, Laurie Sagalyn, Rita London and Lisbeth Stone; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Mitchell Stone, and Emma Schurink. A memorial service will be held at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW, on Thursday September 14, at 11 a.m.
