DAN REZNECK Obituary

REZNECK Dan Rezneck Dan Rezneck was born on April 26, 1935 in Troy, New York. He died February 23,2021 of complications from a head injury following a fall at home. He was the only child of Samuel Rezneck and Elizabeth ("Betty") Fishburn. He leaves behind his wife of almost 50 years, Beverly Macht Rezneck; two children, Jonathan Rezneck (Lottie Rezneck) of Hillsborough, California; Abigail Rezneck (Miles Ehrlich) of Berkeley, California; and four grandchildren: Jackson Ehrlich, Joshua Rezneck, Nathan Ehrlich, and Lexie Rezneck. Dan was a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard College in 1956 and a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School in 1959. In 1960-61, he served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. Dan loved being a lawyer. He began his career in practice as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, which he always said was the best job he ever had. In 1964, he joined the Washington Law Firm of Arnold & Porter, where he practiced for 31 years. In 1995, Dan retired from Arnold & Porter, and became General Counsel to the District of Columbia's Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority, known as the Control Board. When the Control Board was dissolved, Dan joined the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia as a Senior Assistant Attorney General, maintaining an active litigation caseload until his accident. A lifelong baseball fan, Dan was particularly proud of having represented the D.C. Government in the project to build Nationals Park. If he had his way, he would have continued to practice law from his hospital bed. Dan served as President of the District of Columbia Bar in 1975 and on the D.C. Bar's Board of Professional Responsibility. He was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law Center for 57 years. He loved his family, his work, the law, history, mentoring young people, baseball, and swimming. Sometimes he would swim for as long as two hours a day. When asked if he found swimming boring, he would say, "You know, if you're a boring person, it's really not a problem." He will be terribly missed. A memorial will be held at a future time. If people would like to make a donation in Dan's memory, three organizations that he valued greatly are The Abramson Foundation, the D.C. Bar Foundation and the Council for Court Excellence.

Dear Bev:

Condolences to you from one of the old 37th gang who distinctly remembers when you and Dan were first getting together. I’ve sent the notice on to the sister of Nan(your housemate at the time) in Baltimore who remembers everything also, and, on the phone today, asked me to pass along her sympathies as I do now. He was a fantastically interesting guy.

Love, Hank
