WHITNEY BALL Obituary

Whitney Lynne Ball (Age 52)
Passed peacefully at her home in Alexandria, VA after a long and courageous battle with cancer on August 17, 2015. Whitney was born in Morgantown, WV on September 26, 1962, and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1980 before attending Sweet Briar College in VA where she earned her degree in Political Economy in 1984. She co-founded DonorsTrust in 1999 to assist philanthropists in devoting their resources to the advancement of liberty. Under her leadership as President and CEO, DonorsTrust became known for its principled stewardship of charitable dollars and unyielding protection of donor intent. Prior to DonorsTrust, Whitney worked at the Cato Institute and The Philanthropy Roundtable, where she played a key role in building the organization into a thriving national association of grantmakers.  Whitney is survived by her loving parents, J.P. and Anita Ball of Park City, UT; brother, John Patrick (Marisa) Ball Jr. also of Park City, UT; niece, McKenzie Nicole Ball; nephew, Connor Morrison Ball; aunts and uncle, Deanna and Thomas McCutchen of Fayetteville, NC, and Rebecca Jane Ball of Euclid, OH. An Anglican service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King St., Alexandria, VA 22302. In lieu of flowers, Whitney's wish was to benefit the Halquist Memorial In-Patient Center in acknowledgement of the Center's loving care during her time in hospice. To carry-out her wish, please send any gifts you wish to make to DonorsTrust (1800 Diagonal Road, Suite 280, Alexandria, VA 22314) marked "In Memoriam" and made payable to DonorsTrust. DonorsTrust will ensure all gifts collected are granted to the Halquist Center in memory of Whitney. Arrangements entrusted to Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home. I'm so very sorry for your loss, JP and Anita. (Anita, I worked for you in Morgantown at The Last Word bookstore while in school there and was looking for you online to say how very much that job and your grace changed my life, and I found this sad news. I would love to catch up with you via email [email protected] if there is any interest sometime.). My prayers are with you and your family. Gina Thayer (Houston, Texas)

JP Anita John Rebecca Jane and family and friends of Whitney Lynne Ball deepest sympathy. Keeping you each in our thoughts and prayers. Whitney achieved much during her life and her grandmother Pat Engle would have been so very proud of her. Mary Templeton knew Pat and the family well and my late dad also knew Forney Wade. Like her grandmother Pat who made such an impression and created indelible memories to all who had honor knowing her; sure same is true of Whitney. Mary Templeton also recalls Rebecca Jane when she was very young as well as her brother JP. May the shared memories of Whitney provide comfort now and in days ahead. Blessings.
