ANNA COLES Obituary
Dr. ANNA B. COLES
Entered into eternal rest on February 3, 2015. Devoted mother of Michelle and Gina Coles. Also survived by five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by daughter, Margot Coles Singleton and former husband, Herbert R. Coles. She had a long and illustrious career, to include founding Dean of Howard University (HU) College of Nursing. Memorial Service will be held at Rankin Memorial Chapel on Campus of Howard University, 2600 6th St., N.W. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Anna B. Coles Scholarship Fund, HU College of Nursing. Professional services by R.N. HORTON CO.

To the Coles Family: you have my deepest condolences. I am graduate of the HUCN Class of 1979 and I remember Dean Coles in much the same way as Ms. Linda Davis Prom wrote earlier. I don't think I can state it better than she! Dr. Coles instilled a sense of excellence in us that serves me to this day in my professional life. Thank you Dean Coles for putting us all on the path to excellence! You have secured your legacy at Alma Mater.

To the family of Dr. Anna B. Coles,
I extend my sympathy in the passing of your mother, grandmother and my "Dean Coles".
I will always remember my days at the College of Nursing, how the presence of Dean Coles demanded RESPECT but more importantly her committment to excellence. She did not make it easy for us, if you were going to be a graduate of the College of Nursing it was because you "earned" that status.
She did more than just touch my life she left an imprint and an expectation to serve. I, like many other students who had the priveledge and the honor to be a part of the College of Nursing under her leadership will never forget her.

Visionary, caring, elegant, those are the remembrances I have of Dean Anna B. Coles after the more than 10 years we worked together as colleagues and friends at the Howard University College of Nursing. Her commitment to the pursuit of nursing excellence is unparalleled. The impact of her seminal work in nursing education and administration will be felt for many generations to come.
My sincere condolences to the family. May the God of comfort be with you always.

While I did not attend Howard's School of Nursing, Dr. Coles made an impression on me. I got to know her when I was a student nurse active with the student nurse association. I saw her as a role model. My condolences to the family.
