VERNON DARRELL ACREE, JR.  
Known to his friends and family as "Mike", passed away February 1, 2013 in Fairfax, VA.Born June 25, 1919 in Washington, DC, he was the eldest son of the late Vernon Darrell Acree and Elizabeth Penny Acree. On April 3, 1938 in Washington, DC, he married the former Doris E. Wight, who survives.Mr. Acree served in the United States Army during World War II and worked for over 40 years in many capacities in the United States Government, most recently serving as the Commissioner of the US Customs Service from 1972-1977. He later owned and operated a consulting business, as well as a restaurant in Fairfax, VA. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 75 years, Doris Acree of Gainesville, VA; four children, V. Darrell Acree and his wife Carol of Washington, DC; Allan L. Acree and his wife Carol of Potomac, MD; Jean Winters of Gainesville, VA; M. Elizabeth Ives and her husband Leon of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Marie Olson and her husband David of Idaho Falls, ID; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8713 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA with Rev. Thomas Yehl as the Celebrant.Private Interment will take place on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or at support.woundedwarrior.org.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post. Acree Family, I laid a wreath at Mr. And Mrs. Acree´s Stonewall Memory Garden grave site today as part of Wreaths Across America in honor of Mr. Acree´s military service during WWII. God bless him for his sacrifice and service to our great country and to Mrs. Acree for all of her support, sacrifice, and strength for their family during his military service.
