Dr. Allard was director of the NHC during my four years there. A first-rate gentleman who helped this amateur historian understand the profession. Best four years of my professional life. RIP.

My thoughts are with you. Dean was always a welcome face at Dartmouth. There were 755 when we started, and now are whittled down to mid-400s, a class of GIANTS most of whom served their country...early or late as I did in Vietnam. Life, mores, marriage, socialization, values and loyalty were different back then and 1955 was special. The young men we were then have aged, but thanks to alphabetical seating Dean and I were friends and although it has been all those years, I still see his smile and cherish his memory.

May God give you His peace and strength at this difficult time. He was the first person I met at the old Naval Historical Center, and over the years I came to have a great deal of respect for him. I will miss him.

My deepest sympathies. Dr. Allard was a role model for this up and coming naval historian and I always appreciated the interest he had in helping others craft their trade.
