JOHN PLITT Obituary

JOHN WILLIAM PLITT   "BILL"
On Friday, January 25, 2019, Bill Plitt passed away peacefully at home in Kensington, MD. He was 96. For over 42 years, he was the adored husband of Beverly Plitt. Previously, he enjoyed 24 years of cherished marriage to Doris Plitt, who passed away in 1976. In addition to wife Beverly, Bill leaves behind a large blended family, including daughter, Peggy Walck, son, John Plitt Jr., son, Stephen Plitt, and stepson, Benjamin Powell. Mr. Plitt is also survived by three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren. Born in Baltimore, MD, Bill grew up in Bethesda, MD, then served his country as a sailor in the Coast Guard in World War II. Mr. Plitt spent his entire post-war career with C&P Telephone Company, where he began as a linesman and eventually retired as a corporate manager after more than 38 years. He will be remembered for his affinity for the great outdoors and sports of all kind, his great fondness for the Chesapeake Bay, his lifelong friendships with the neighborhood kids he grew up with, his love of dogs, and his abiding Catholic faith. Visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. A graveside blessing and luncheon will follow the mass. www.collinsfuneralhome.com

Not sure what to say?

Our deepest sympathies for your loss. I cannot think of my childhood without fond memories of your Dad and your family. My father used to say, we are passing through at the right time, and he was right. They had a glorious time together. I have pictures of their canoeing trip after the war. Two handsome, strong, carefree guys on an adventure as was the case with so many of their stories. We will miss your Dad.

I remember Uncle Bill was always smiling. Down at the Bay with the sail boat and giving me a ride, such a thrill for a little girl. He will be remembered and loved.
