Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Dear "Uncle" Oscar,
I am sorry that I can not be present to offer a final act of respect that you so richly deserve. As the last of our childhood neighborhood parents' generation your passing is the hardest to accept and not the least of which because:
How you called "Aunt" Lois, "Hon".
How you traded a good humored running dialogue and quips back and forth with Tony over the years.
How you and your fellow WWII veteran comrade, my father Jair, also of Middle Eastern ancestry, were as brothers.
How you kept our house key for situations where it was usually and frequently me who forgot a key or locked myself out.
How we shared a trip to the 1964 World Fair in Queens, NY; you on way to Massachusetts for a vacation with the Malmquists who on their visits down to Silver Spring, treated us like cousins too.
How you set the neighborhood standard for keeping lawns and flower beds lovingly tended to the extent that we would sneak family pictures out in your front yard.
How you, Lois, and Mom would sneak relaxing smokes once in awhile together; supposedly out of our sights.
How you and Lois had us over for tasty cookouts and later when we were back in town always attended our good humored neighborhood reunions at Ledos.
How you gave me my first and more than fair paycheck for shoveling snow off your porch and sidewalk
How you treated us to cheery visits and fun gifts for our kids; we still have Goofy and photographic mementos of the lovely times we all had together.
How you skillfully, patiently, and gently bandaged a wickedly scrapped up and scared 5 year old me after a hard bicycle fall in the summer of 1957.
How you served the country honorably in the Navy during WWII.
All these and more endeared you (and Aunt Lois) to our family and left me with examples of what is decency, hospitality, and neighborliness. We are forever grateful for having had the fortune to share with you the sidewalks of the 10000 block of Brunett Ave in Four Corners while waiting for the Good Humor Man, or sweeping them of leaves or snow, or shooting the breeze with all our wonderful neighbors for over half a century. You were a vital member of our little United Nations in Silver Spring that really worked that has left me with my most indelible impression while growing up.
May your memory be for a blessing for all those who had the honor and pleasure in knowing you and your family find some comfort in the inspiration of all those wonderful personal qualities you embodied that for me is your legacy. Rest in Peace Dear Neighbor.
Sincerely,
