GIGAX Alice Clancy Staples Gigax (Age 78) Found peace on June 14, 2018 returning home to her Creator after declining from Alzheimer's disease for six years, cared for by her tenderly devoted husband. She grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and spent most of her adult life in Washington, DC before retiring to Rockville, MD. She received her higher education from Centre College, University of Louisville and Trinity Washington University. Alice lived her life with intensity, meeting each day with good cheer, hope and dedication to excelling as wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Devoted to her husband of almost 49 years, she and Richard provided their beloved children as well as their five grandchildren with unfailing support through the generous gift of time, laughter and love. Her professional commitment as social work er and teacher, especially as the reading specialist at National Presbyterian School, furthered her goal of enabling those who faced obstacles to improve their situations. Her expertise helped many youngsters overcome difficulties to secure their ability to read, one of her greatest achievements. She fervently believed in the value of education including the arts, which she enjoyed in addition to reading, walking and good conversation. With numerous friends Alice shared confidences, celebrations, triumphs and trials. She was dedicated to a variety of endeavors at Church of the Pilgrims, her faith integral to her daily life. There are those who in their deliberate living pursue a righteous course of action in all their activities and relationships, who hand happiness to the outstretched hands of all they meet. Alice was that person. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, William Richard Gigax and beloved children, Richard (Natalie Guishar), William (Tonya), Marian "Mimi" Gigax (Teklu Asmerom) and five treasured grandchildren, Martinique Duran, Jace, Mai-Liw Gigax; Tsaga, and brother, Akin Asmerom. A memorial service and reception afterwards will be held at Church of the Pilgrims in Washington, DC. on June 14, at 11 a.m. The service for the consecration of Alice's remains will take place at Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, Kentucky, at noon on August 4, followed by burial at Ryder Cemetery. Alice will rest with her mother, Marian Young Clancy Staples, and father George McClellan Staples. Online condolences may be shared at www.colefuneral.com.
