Bill Mills  Maj. USMC (Ret.)  
Maj. Bill Mills (USMC, Ret.) passed away on April 13, 2021 and went to be with his wife, Elizabeth who preceded him in death in 2008. They were married for 58 years.Bill was born in Hoboken, NJ but his parents moved to Brooklyn, NY when he was two months old, he always considered himself a New Yorker.Bill was born on June, 6, 1930, a day that was to become famous.Bill served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps from Private to retiring as a Major. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. Among the many medals he received were the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star with Combat V, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean War Service Medal with six battle stars and The Vietnam War Service Medal with two service stars. During the Korean War he served as a machine gunner in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Upon his retirement from the Marines, he worked for a company called TRW as a project manager.Bill was the son of William and Helen Mills who came to the United States from St. Johns, Newfoundland in 1928. He was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Feis and Joan Mink. He is survived by a great brother, Richard, a navy veteran and his wife, Carole.Bill had three children, the late Michael, a social worker, Kevin, a criminal defense attorney and Krista, a senior executive with HUD. He is also survived by a very special friend Cummie York and a long term friend from Connecticut, Leslie Terro. Bill is also survived by five grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Olivia, Christian, and West, and three great grandchildren.Bill will be laid to rest next to his wife in Shenandoah Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.A visitation for friends of Kevin Mills will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service following at 5 p.m.A second visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service following at 6 p.m.Interment with military honors will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Shenandoah Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to The Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program via their website at https://www.toysfortots.orgPlease view obituaries and tribute wall at www.ompsfuneralhome.com
