Carel L. Wilkinson (Age 83)  

Laurel, MD resident Carel Wilkinson died June 9, 2018 of complications following hip surgery. Carel was born in Charleston, West Virginia in 1934. At 17, Carel moved to Maryland where he had a long career at the National Security Agency as a printer. Carel served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. In 1954, Carel married Kathleen "Kay" Turner, his beloved wife of 57 years before her death in 2011. Carel is survived by his children John and Sandra; son-in-law Joe Pohutsky; and granddaughter, Joni Pohutsky, who he loved more than anyone. Carel liked to golf, horse racing and playing cards and Scrabble. Many called him "Uncle" and "like a grandfather" including the Lamm, Lenox and Pohutsky families. A private memorial service for Carel's family and his friends will be held on June 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Laurel, 424 Main Street, Laurel, Maryland, 20707. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his honor to the Church.
