Celso Bianco  

Beloved husband, father, friend, and mentor, died on August 16, 2018, in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Bianco, who was born in S��o Paulo, Brazil where he received his Doctor of Medicine, leaves behind an enduring legacy as a world leader in the fields of transfusion medicine and blood safety. Dr. Bianco served the New York Blood Center, during which time he was instrumental in determining and implementing the policy response to the HIV/AIDS crisis with regard to transfusion safety, America's Blood Centers, the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Association of Hematology, and the International Society of Blood Transfusion. Throughout his career, Dr. Bianco was known for his measured approach in seeking peaceful resolutions to controversial issues and was a mentor to numerous members of his professional community. Dr. Bianco is survived by his wife, Maria Rios, Bethesda; his son, Marco Bianco, Pasadena, CA; his two daughters, Christina Bianco Smith, Bainbridge Island, WA and Julia Bianco Schoeffling, Los Angeles, CA; his two brothers, Eduardo Bianco and Carlos Bianco of S��o Paulo, Brazil, and five beautiful grandchildren.
