BYRD Dr. Charles H. Byrd II, PhD (Age 75) Of Haymarket, VA met our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Haymarket Medical Center. He was born on March 1, 1943 in Washington, DC, the son of Charles H. Byrd and Betty J Curry Byrd. After graduation from Hammond High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged, he began his law enforcement career as an officer for the Fairfax County Police Department. In 1973, he was selected to be a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His passion for competitive shooting extended well beyond his retirement in 1996. Dr. Byrd moved his young family to Manassas, VA in 1966. He became a member of Manassas Assembly of God where he was a deacon, teacher, and encourager, as the church grew from a congregation of 150 to the 3,000 who now worship at Chapel Springs. Dr. Byrd dedicated his retirement to fueling his love of history by continuing his education. He earned an MA from George Mason University, an MDiv from Oxford University, England and his PhD from Birmingham University, England. His first degree was earned in Administration of Justice from American University Washington, DC. Survivors include three children, Mikal A. Byrd, Haymarket, VA; Patty W. Keating, Bristow, VA; Charles H. Byrd III of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, John Zimmerman, Rapid City, SD, Gavin Keating, Richmond, VA, Jacob Zimmerman, Morgantown, WV, George Zimmerman, Madison, NJ, Riley Keating, Bristow, VA, Annie Zimmerman, Middleburg, VA. two sisters, Bonnie Bennett of Richmond, VA; Betty Wine of Manassas, VA; and three brothers, Richard Byrd, Annandale, VA; Timothy Byrd, Pensacola, FL; and Steven Byrd of Lorton, VA. He is preceded in death by the love of his life and inspiration, Patsy W. Byrd, his wife of 54 years. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 10 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 11 at Chapel Springs Assembly of God, 11500 New Life Way, Bristow, VA where the family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 10 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA.
