On Thursday, June 2, 2011, mathematician, of Silver Spring, Maryland. The only son of Cloyd Heck Marvin, long-time President of George Washington University, and Dorothy Betts Marvin, loving friend and companion to Joan Templeton, who preceded him in death, and beloved godfather of Carla Conover Aly and Keith Conover. He attended Saint Albans School, Haverford College (BA), and Stanford University (MA). His Haverford education was interrupted in 1943, when he was drafted into the Army. He served at Los Alamos, working directly for Enrico Fermi performing pre-computer calculations for the Manhattan Project. After Stanford, he started at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, working there during four decades and remaining lifelong friends with his first APL office mate, Bruce Bundsen. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2:30 p.m., at National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20016.
