DONALD MATHISON Obituary

DONALD KENT MATHISON (Age 72)
On Thursday, February 7, 2019, Donald K. Mathison of Rockville, MD, passed peacefully. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra "Sandy" Feldman; his daughter, Nicole (Ed) Frankenberg; his son, Jason (Nicole) Mathison, Marc (Marla) Feldman; Jodi (Justin) Renert and his eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, Grant, Wade, Justin, Darren, Ryan, and Sienna. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, and many friends, as well as his loving brother, Stu Mathison (June). He was a cable pioneer and loved to impact the world through media and broadband technology. He always found good in everyone and made friends everywhere. Services and shiva will be held February 13, 2019 at the home of Mark and Marla Feldman at 7 p.m.

This is heartbreaking news that I'm so very sorry to hear. I met Don when he was VP of Marketing at Media General in Fairfax, VA. He remained for decades a wonderful industry colleague and friend. I am shocked at the news of his passing. It seems like mere weeks ago that we exchanged messages about getting together for lunch, as he was back in Santa Monica for a few weeks. Most recently, we had a fun lunch at the SoHo House in West Hollywood, revisiting old times but also talking about all the projects and ideas he had. He was very thoughtful, kind, and cheerful -- a lovely, soft spoken cable pioneer. He loved the industry and nominated me to the Cable TV Pioneers in 2008. I am so sorry to hear of this loss to his family, friends, and all of us in the cable industry. Deepest condolences to all.

I first met Don in the early 80s when he help me with (what else?) a cable programming deal. We remained good friends ever since and enjoyed working together. Don was great to just hang out with and I have wonderful memories of his recent visit to Los Angeles. I will miss him very much.

Don was my brother in law from his first marriage. He always treated me like a big brother giving me advise about dating, helping me with my college applications and even taught me how to ride a bike as a young adult. He was always so caring and helpful. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

Don and I enjoyed a lunch or beverage every so often in recent years. It was always the best part of that week. He was SO energetic and filled with new ideas. I can see his smile and know he is thinking of something new and exciting. We are all so fortunate to have known Don.
