DONN EDWARD PHILPOT (Age 81)
September 1, 1941 – May 26, 2023
Donn Edward Philpot passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2023, surrounded by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Jan, and their children.
Born in Washington, DC in 1941 to
Elizabeth Beatrice Collins and Richard Virgil Philpot, Donn was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School and proudly served in active duty in the U.S. Navy. He had an extraordinary career spanning industry, government, and academia. In addition to his self-employment consultancy, he worked for the General Electric Company, Computer Sciences Corporation, Science Applications International Corporation, Technology Applications, Inc., and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.
Donn had an amazing ability to listen, reason, mentor, support, forgive, and love. He was passionate about equality for all and a champion for the underdog. He loved his cars and motorcycles, playing the guitar, and watching Mel Brooks' movies. He was an early adopter of everything Apple and took great pride in being Kris Kristofferson's most loyal fan. He was an all-around good guy with a magnificent smile and a beautiful singing voice.
Through the years, Donn and Jan resided in Pittsburgh, Alexandria, Rehoboth Beach, and eventually retired in Cumming, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, six children (Erik Philpot, Colin Philpot, Todd Philpot, Leslie (Dobkin) Marinelli, Theodore (Ted) Dobkin, and Courtney (Philpot) Cooper), and 11 adored grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of Collins and Ryan cousins throughout the country, and his best buddy "Butch" in Cincinnati.
A memorial service and Irish wake with family and friends is being planned for the fall.
