ESTHER F. LARDENT  

Esther F. Lardent, 69, died on April 4, 2016, in Washington, DC, from complications due to renal failure. Esther dedicated her 45-year legal career to ensure civil rights and equal access to justice for all. In two decades as President and CEO of Pro Bono Institute, Esther''s leadership transformed the landscape of pro bono at large law firms and in-house legal departments. Known as the "Queen of Pro Bono," Esther has earned
numerous awards for her service and projects including being named one of Legal Times'' "90 Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Last 30 Years" and one of The American Lawyer''s "Top 50 Innovators." More recently, Esther was recognized with the Western
Center on Law & Poverty''s Earl Johnson Equal Justice Award and The American Lawyer''s Lifetime Achievement Award. Esther received her B.A., magna cum laude,
from Brown University, and her J.D. from the University of Chicago. Memorial donations may be made in Esther''s name to Pro Bono Institute or the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
 
A memorial service will be held on June 6 at Sixth & I Synagogue. Contact [email protected] for information.
