SHEDLICK GAIL ANN MADDEN SHEDLICK Wife, mother, and lover of all things in life passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Gail was born in Washington, DC and spent her earliest years growing up in Arlington, VA. Later, with her family, she moved to the West End of Richmond, VA, where she attended St. Benedict's and St. Mary's Catholic Schools and graduated from J.R. Tucker High School in 1974. She received her Bachelor's of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science in 1978, from Mary Washington College, and earned her Master's in Public Administration (MPA) in 1984 from George Mason University. During her varied career, she worked at McGuire, Woods & Battle, American Export Group of Washington, DC, the General Accounting Office (GAO), Fairfax County Public Schools, delivering early enrichment and phonics programs to elementary school children, and the Fairfax County Library System, Vienna location, where she supported and delivered young children's reading programs. Her greatest love was her family. She married Edward Paul Shedlick "Ed" in 1983 and they raised one child, Kevin Michael. Gail was active in Kevin's childhood development by volunteering her time at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School's Odyssey of the Mind program and in the school's library. She also participated in Kevin's activities by being active in his Cub Scout den. Gail enjoyed reading, gardening, history and politics, the beach, the season of autumn, and traveling America and the world. Her spirited blue eyes, eloquence, and loving heart touched all. Gail's presence will always be with us, and we are confident in knowing we will see her again. She will be truly missed by her family and friends, including Ed and Kevin; parents, Eugene and Arlene Madden of Richmond, VA; brothers, Brian (Cathy) of Virginia Beach, VA and Mark of Arlington; brothers-in-law, Jim (Laurie) and Tom (Madelaine); sister-in-law, Lorri Ann (Patrick); and nephews and nieces, Austin, Brett, Carly, Christopher, Connor, Drew, Jimmy (Alice), Meagan, Mollie, Ryan, and Tommy.
