LEVY GAVIN CALEB LEVY Gavin Levy "Gavo" left his body on May 13, 2018 to take on his next adventure. This life just could not contain him and as a great teacher of teachers once said, "death is absolutely safe and it's like taking off a tight shoe". Gavin agrees. He was born May 15, 1983 as a stubborn, smiling Taurus and was showered by his parents, Andy and Linda Levy, with constant love, support and adventures of all kinds including soccer and lacrosse tournaments (Gavin was a star through high school) trips to exotic islands and cruises with the whole family, and around the world to Africa, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and more. Mom has always been the rock hanging on to her three boys journeying through life. Additionally he is survived by his older brother and best friend, Jared Levy, who still thinks Gavin swindled him on the famous Ken Griffey Jr. rookie baseball card deal in 89', but is still excited that they may be in the Guinness book for most Queso cheese dip ever consumed by one family. Their bond may truly be where the phrase "love you like a brother" comes from and their shared love of sports, snowboarding, spirituality, music, and a good shindig kept them orbiting each other intimately from Maryland to Colorado and beyond. He also shared loving relationships with his sister-in-law Jocelyn, who has way more in common with Gavin than Jared, and his niece that he adored, Jaya Grace, who Gavin touted as the youngest baby to do a downward dog. His love for these additional Levy ladies in his life was overwhelming. And of course his beloved, ever-present, wicked smart and crazy loyal dog Floyd, who even after two ACL surgeries still is going to get that damn ball. Named after Floyd Hand, Gavin's Shaman and the Elder on Pine Ridge Native American Reservation where Gavin spent many years working with a nonprofit, Conscious Alliance, that combines art and music to help with hunger alleviation and cultural preservation. Gavin's extended family and many friends were also so important in his life and so treasured by him. Everyone that Gavin touched loved him. Gavin was typically the first to the party. No, actually he was late to most everything, but he always seemed to have a weird sixth sense about which new visual or musical artist or style or business would be trending. He became a funky percussionist, which he picked up when he studied and lived abroad in South Africa, and a hilarious lyricist if you got him in the right mood. He was truly one of the funniest people around without EVER hurting anyone's feelings. And this boy could eat, starting out young with Mom's gourmet family meals, yes dinner bell to call in the boys from the cul-de-sac, and then on to eating his way around the world from dim sum to Maryland Crabs to whatever the chef du jour was...oh and add some lobster and truffles on that please. Gavo was not shy about stacking up that plate just right and getting what he wanted. Although he enjoyed a less than average life span, Gavin didn't live an average life. Gavin packed as much into 35 years as most do into a lifetime and his soul seemed to know it and say, "my work here is done." He leaves us all wanting more of that sweetness, that kindness, that hilarious sense of humor, but we have our memories and know that he will forever be in our hearts. The memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10am at Temple Beth Shalom 1461 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Arnold, MD 21012. Don't be late! Additionally, for those of you that can't make it we'll be broadcasting live on Facebook if you go to We will also be celebrating Gavin's life and holding space with family and friends all week long at Andy and Linda's house: 1602 John Worthington Way, Crownsville, Md 21032. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gavin's name to the nonprofit organization that Gavin helped establish and run after he graduated from the University of Colorado: Conscious Alliance, (, which is committed to hunger alleviation nationwide with a focus on Native American reservations. Even better, become a member of this organization in his honor:) Arrangements by SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC. sollevinson.comArrangements by SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC.
