Georgia Demopoulos Lewis

Georgia Demopoulos Lewis died at home on October 23, 2019 at age 84. Born on March 17, 1935 in Buffalo, NY and raised in the Greek community there, she attended Michigan State University and became a teacher. In 1966, she moved to Potomac, where she lived for 40 years before retiring to Bethesda. Georgia worked for Montgomery County Public Schools, developing and administering parent education and family support programs. She was a fierce advocate for children, an accomplished writer, a patron of the arts, an engaged citizen and a good friend. Many were touched by her kindness.
Georgia is survived and beloved by seven children, Peter (Kim) Lewis, Sarah (Larry) Lewis, Mary Lewis, John (Carrie) Lewis, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Cole, Daniel Lewis and Susan (James) Bergin; eleven grandchildren, Devin, Madeline, Courtney, William, Allison, Emily, Zachary, Frank, Gabriel, Theodore, and Jeremiah; and numerous cherished friends and extended family. She was predeceased by parents, William and Constance (Macheras) Demopoulos, sister, Theodora and brother, William.
A memorial service is planned for January 19 at 11 a.m. at The Writer's Center in Bethesda. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACLU or any public library.
