HERBERT JOHN GRABAU  
On July 2, 2018 Herbert John Grabau of Woodbine, Maryland passed away. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Joann Grabau. He is survived by his children, William J. Grabau and Jessica Penkert; son-in-law, Michael Penkert; grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah Penkert; and his cousins Steve, John, Chris, and Mark Lysy, Mariann and Cathy Lysy, Diane Wright, and Gail Allen.
Herb has a long history of service to his country having served in the US Navy and US Army Reserve, as well as retiring with 40 years of service with the National Security Agency. He will also be remembered for his service to his community as a Prince George's County Volunteer Fireman and Paramedic, West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fireman, and Laurel Rescue Squad as a paramedic. Herb also enjoyed driving the train for the Little Sykes Railroad and driving a school bus for Carroll County Public Schools.
A memorial service for Herb will be held on August 11, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 21611 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville, MD 20882. Herb and Mary will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
