J. CANDACE CLIFFORD  
J. Candace Clifford passed away August 15, 2018 from brain cancer, age 57. She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Clifford; brother, Christopher Clifford; niece, Chelsea Clifford and nephew, Jordan Clifford. Candace was a respected lighthouse historian and a premier lighthouse researcher, enthusiastic traveler, talented photographer and valued member of the Washington dance community. A celebration of her life through tributes, a potluck reception and dancing will be held at Glen Echo Park, Bumper Car Pavilion on Sunday, October 21, beginning at 11 a.m.

Candice was recently honored posthumously at the National Lighthouse Museums 9th. Light Keepers Gala...
Her dedication to women in lighthouses has also inspired Elaine Austin, a watercolor artist, to create an exhibit that will open on September 24-October 20 at the National Lighthouse Museum, Staten Island, NY

I had the pleasure of working with Candace on many maritime related projects, primarily lighthouses, since the 1990s. What a wonderful friend and co-worker. The lighthouse community misses her friendly smile and eagerness to help others in her passion of lighthouse history and preservation.

The National Lighthouse Museum extends its heartfelt sympathy to her family on the loss of a very special person. This is certainly a tremendous loss to the lighthouse world as Candace's knowledge and impeccable research skills were amazing. Her contributions in helping curate the content of the Museum will certainly remain as a legacy in her vibrant career...she will always remain a shining beacon in our eyes!
