POARCH JAMES WILLIAM POARCH (Age 71) Died February 9, 2010, at his home of natural causes. A viewing will be held Monday, February 15, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Mr. Poarch was born on October 19, 1938 in Kansas City, KS to Cecil and Edna Poarch. He graduated from Wyandot high school, went on to serve in the United States Army and then married Elizabeth Blunt in 1961 (divorced in 1999). He continued his education with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Missouri School of Mines, followed by an MBA from Drury College, and completed his education with a Ph.D. in chemistry from University of Virginia. Mr. Poarch most recently served as a chemical engineer to the National Ground Intelligence Center, the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq, and ITT, where he worked until his passing. Mr. Poarch received numerous professional awards for contributions to national security and excellence in the workplace. Mr. Poarch is survived by his sons, J. William Poarch and Daniel Poarch; daughters-in-law, Paula Poarch and Molly Poarch; two grandchildren, Samuel and Eric Poarch; and his beloved fiancée, Suzanne Chansky. Also leaves his dog, Doogie. His sons and grandsons remember him as a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking, being active in his community and serving as Vice President of the Montebello Condominium Association. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
