Julia Farkas Bayer Markham
On Sunday, September 5, 2021, of Silver Spring, MD. She was 86. Beloved wife of George Emerson Markham (deceased 2017); mother of Nadine, Robert and Claudia; stepmother of David, Laura and Steven; grandmother of Julia, Joseph, Amanda, Kyle, Alice, Eli, Amelia, Zack and Amber. Also survived by many loving family members and friends. Julia was born in Cleveland, OH, on May 13, 1935 to Julius and Julia Bayer. She had one sister Barbara James (deceased 2013). Julia received a full scholarship to Bryn Mawr College, where she graduated (1957) with a degree in French. After graduation she worked for the CIA in Brussels, Belgium, Washington, DC, and in Paris, France. She subsequently earned a Master's Degree from the University of MD, and worked as a Dietician for many years including at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. Julia married George Emerson Markham in Washington, DC, on August 18, 1962 and they later moved to Camp Springs, MD, where they raised their family. In 2006 they moved to Silver Spring, MD. Julia was a devout Episcopalian and served her church as a choir member and later as a member of the order of St. Luke's. In her later years, she volunteered at hospice. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved music, and was a talented piano player and singer. Memorial Service will be Celebrated at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 633 Sligo Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20910, on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 12 p.m. Private Interment at Parklawn Memorial Park will take place after the Celebration.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

I offer sympathy and care especially to Nadine and Claudia who were students of mine. I fondly remember both Julia and Emerson who were strong supporters of the music program in our school system. Sending love as you celebrate the life of your mom.
