KATE BEACH Obituary


BEACH KATE TODD BEACH August 6,1934 ~ March 31, 2015 Kate Todd Beach, a resident of Washington, DC, passed away after brief illness on March 31, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Webster and Eleanor Todd, was born in New York City and grew up in Oldwick, New Jersey. Kate is survived by her husband of 45 years, Samuel F. Beach, Jr., her son, Charles K Thompson, two grandsons, Charlie and Webster, a brother, Webster B. Todd and a sister, Christine Todd Whitman, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A brother, John R. Todd, predeceased her. Kate had a distinguished career in Government and worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation during the Reagan Admin- istration and the U.S. Department of the Treasury in the George H. W. Bush Administration, where her last position was acting Treasurer of the United States. After her government service she worked for a number of years at the International Law Institute. Kate was a graduate of the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia where she sang in the Glee Club and attended Bryn Mawr and Smith College. She was an enthusiastic tennis player and loved playing at the Maidstone Club, Somerset Hills Country Club, Chevy Chase Club, and Sea Oaks. She loved walking on the beach at her winter home in Vero Beach, Florida. Kate was an avid reader and loved working on crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful and graceful dancer and especially enjoyed Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movies. She was fond of Dixie Land jazz and the songs of Gershwin, Berlin, Porter and Sinatra. Kate was elegant, poised and reserved and extremely loyal to her family and friends. She loved all her long haired dachshunds: Hershey Bar, Lexie, Jillie, Paddington, and Percy. Her favorite city was Paris and she never tired of traveling to France and was there just last Fall. Kate was a member of the Chevy Chase Club, Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis and John's Island. She was a past member of the Sulgrave Club. A memorial service will be held on June 6,2015 at 11:00AM at St. David's Episcopal Church, 5150 Macomb Street N.W. Washington, DC In lieu of lowers, contributions in her memory can be made to The Foxcroft School, P.O. Box 5555, Middleburg, VA 20118 or VNA Hospice House, 901 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.A memorial service will be held on June 6,2015 at 11:00AM at St. David's Episcopal Church, 5150 Macomb Street N.W. Washington, DC In lieu of lowers, contributions in her memory can be made to The Foxcroft School, P.O. Box 5555, Middleburg, VA 20118 or VNA Hospice House, 901 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
