Beloved sister Madelyn Anne Birdzell passed away on December 14, 2018 at the age of 51. She was born in Washington, DC on November 19, 1967. She is survived by her brother, Douglas, and her nephew, Anthony.
Madelyn grew up in Arlington, Virginia, where she graduated from H.B. Woodlawn High School and George Mason University. She loved music and ballet, and studied classical piano with Madame Tamara Dmitrieff (1904-1988) of Washington, DC. They developed a friendship which gave Madelyn much inspiration and comfort throughout life. Like her mother, Theresa (1926-2018), Madelyn was intelligent, curious about the world around her, and willing to serve. She spent most of her working life as an academic tutor and piano teacher for children in Arlington, passing on the love of learning she inherited from her mother. Madelyn had a unique sense of humor, which she took to the stage in the form of a few stand-up comedy appearances in Arlington and DC. She was a talented writer and was published in the Washington Post. She was deeply concerned for her parents' well-being in their last years, and worked hard to to give them comfort. She loved her cats and was a kind and caring aunt. Madelyn was greatly loved and will be missed.
